Unplugged #3: Soft
Well, it's been a long week but today we decided that we were all feeling well enough and rested enough to enjoy the last of this string of unusually sunny days. The theme of this week's Unplug Your Kids was soft. I gathered up some soft things and prepared to have a fun textile picnic in the park. Of course, when we finally got out of the house an hour later, Bella was already getting sleepy, so we changed our destination to the nearest patch of shady grass instead, and never even spread out the blanket.
Bella and Dave sat on a wall and tried out some different toys. Bella didn't think much of the soft Piglet finger puppet. I think she interacts with so many soft things every day, that it's pretty much a run of the mill texture for her.
So we threw in some not-so-soft things for comparison: her favorite plastic teething links and a pine cone that a neighbor girl gave to her yesterday.
And she wiggled her toes in the soft grass with Daddy. (Yes, she has chubby elephant legs.) You'll notice she is much more interested in the cars driving by, though. She was so enthralled with who-knows-what that her hand actually fell out of her mouth as she stared with her mouth agape.
In the end, she fell back on the tried and true (and ever so soft!) blankie, something she can easily grab and fit into her mouth (aka. slobber stamp of approval).
Earlier in the day, I tried to get a photo session of her favorite soft game, playing in the comforters and blankets after nap time. She normally kicks them into the air and tries to grab them and shove them in her mouth. Perhaps I'll get a better shot another morning, until then, here's her eating the bedspread and goofing off with Daddy. (yes, he gave his own daughter bunny ears....)
The remaining post is just gratuitous photos for the grandparents:
And this one especially for my Dad: in case you forget what our neighborhood looks like, Bella took a photo of it for you.

ooohh my girls had chubby legs too... I miss it.. what a beautiful baby.. and what gorgeous grass you have!! nothing like that here in Australia with no rain :(
what good parents you are!
Beautiful photos - what a cutie she is! I love your idea of a "textile picnic." I think she looks so cute exploring that pinecone to contrast with soft baby things!
