two thirds

flight

Dear lia,

Eight months here and gone! Holy cow. It's like you've always been just a little baby in the house. One blink and I realize you're turning into another little kid. My little baby chubalub, growing up in a blink!

all smiles

You have quite the personality now. It is so much fun to watch you wander around the house exploring (still getting stuck backwards). You of course love the tv and all its bright shiny buttons. Growling has reached a new level. Sometimes it's for attention, but mostly it's when you're concentrating or engaging in a great physical feat (such as standing up). We're pretty sure you might be a gremlin, and thus feeding you after midnight might prove to be a bad idea.

more sludding

You scream when you're standing up and lose balance, or when you're tired or cranky or just want Bella to pay attention to you. You love whatever Bella has and fight vehemently when she takes anything away from you. And yet, she is your mini idol. You guys could spend an hour just giggling at each other (when she's not attack hugging you).

watching

As for us, our conversations usually consist of Heh. Heh heh. When you're on my hip you lean over and sway your head into my line of sight and stare at me until you catch my attention. You spend the rest of your day growling, whether you're playing alone, goofing off with Bella, or on a mission to find a new toy (or raid the dishwasher... I mean, really. Who can resist all those shiny little spoons?).

guilty

Dinner time is so much fun. You get to join Bella in your own eat seat now, gnawing on bread, gagging on bits, and sprinkling it all over the floor. Bella does her best to get you growling, shrieking and giggling through dinner. I thought for sure you'd be my child that eats, but no such luck. You refuse most foods, but seem to enjoy paper and bits of lint from the floor. We're going to have to work on your taste, methinks.

learning to eat

My darling, after our first few months together i dreamed of the time that we would finally fall into a rhythm and learn to speak each others language. I just never imagined that it would be a language I already knew. How is it that you do it so well? When you need to reconnect, you press your forehead against mind. There is nothing sweeter in the world than that feeling. It is exactly what I did the entire time I labored with you- the counter, the cabinets, my hands. Strange little world, huh?

queen of the snot bubble

You made it through all our colds, too. You have become the Queen of Snot Bubbles. You were a superstar at the ER and even made it through a chest xray with...minimal screaming (and no vomiting for once!) To verify your tubalubitude, you've got 22lb on that little 28" frame of yours... It's no wonder I can't get pants to fit over your thighs.

Let's just say you have made quite a mark on this family and we love having you here.

You are my squishy ray of sunshine.

Lunchtime

I took a delicious nap today. While I was sleeping Bella held down the fort and made sure everyone was well fed.

Possibilities

So we probably won't do much for Halloween since Lillia won't care and Bella will panic on every doorstep. But if we did, Bella could go as creepy Hoodie Jedi, or Stealth Ballerina. All in a day's work.

togetherness

Togetherness is happiness. Actually, Bella is just doing her best to pretend to be Lillia here. She reverts to babyhood on a regular basis.

breaking free

Some days I feel freer than others. Did I mention this was a very stressful week? It takes its toll on Bella, who rarely sleeps when the house is in turmoil.

So we run around in the rain. In mama's flip flops.

breaking the rules

And spit on the ground where mama won't care. (And I try to turn my head when I see her licking it up after....)
breaking the rules

And scream inside bowls just to hear the echo.
breaking the rules

And get dough in our hair, because why not.

breaking the rules

It's good to be free to be two.

(and good to be free to be scatterbrained because i just realized i didn't edit any of these photos. oh well.)

A moment

Life is full of them. I've been lousy at writing them down since August, and I'm going to try again. Moments like this are too magical to forget.

The sweetest thing

peachy

I crawl into my bed at night, expecting to be greeted by a snuggly little cue ball baby. Instead, you pull away, squeak and stretch from being disturbed and tickle my nose with that fuzzy head.

It has taken me these two months to get used to you - to realize that you are not my darling little Bella returned to her babyhood. It hurts me to wish I had her back to the size you are, hurts to realize that she'll never be quite that close to me again, hurts to have not yet found that level of connection with you.

We're learning to live with each other. You let me wear you now, and you let me cuddle a bit at night. And I'm learning to enjoy the space, learning to run with the moments when you choose to connect. I'm learning to let you be as different as you are.

And the best part? You smell of the sweetest ambrosia. It is the delicious smell of beeswax and honey. This is something new to me, and I can't get enough. And it's mine all day long, and all night while you tickle my nose.

sweet nothing

rocker nap

i used to have quiet moments like these all the time with bella. this was one of the first since lillia's first week. i'm finding it so hard to bond with her without them, so once i got past the guilt of doing nothing, it was pure bliss. oh that fuzzy head.

savoring - our book nook

story time

Welcome to the special book nook we set up for Bella before Lillia was born - a sweet little corner to retreat and take in a bit of story time and TLC. It's what I'm savoring right now.

This girl, grumpy and groggy waking up from a long nap to get over her cold.
story time

Feet, cozy and relaxed.
story time

Those long, curly lashes snuggled up alseep.
story time

Chubby hands resting on my cavernous belly button.
story time

That wild giddy look, which I love.
story time

And the new thing, which I don't love as much, but this too shall pass. No! Wa mines. Mines hands. Don't even think about asking to touch her hands or take something away from her. She sits on them now.
story time

A different perspective, from guess where.
story time

And now Bella has not only begun to read to herself, but to read out loud from memory. It's a treat.

better late

Okay well I'm a smidgen late to the game. The August Break = posting a picture every day. Yep, here I go, hopping on the bandwagon because I'm coming out of newborn coma and need a reason to process photos and need a nudge to get back to blogging. So here we go. My new favorite photo:

daily interactions

Lillia has been lavishing us in smiles during all her awake time today. What a treat! She has my gummy smile already.

There's the happy smile:

lillia's smile

And the giggle smile - the one that explodes across newborns' faces and disappears as they learn to laugh instead:

pre-giggle

And Bella, I've been able to wear her down for naps. She's a happy little kid during the days again and is getting a bit more sleep at night. As her language grows, listening to her imaginative play is delightful. She repeats what we say, sure (Liiiiia, whadyoudoiiiinlia?) but what captivates me are the words that I don't remember teaching her, especially when she applies them in new ways.

oh no!

Fug eyes boken (froggie's eyes are broken).

Oh really? What happened?

Wa wipe off!
(they got wiped off!) Fug ah sad.

What are you going to do?

Bella hug.

all better

And so it goes. She played with those little guys for a half hour and it was bliss.

Welcome!

Welcome! Thanks for stopping in. As you can see, I have a passion for photography (and cooking and knitting). My daughters, Bella and Lillia, are my greatest inspiration, so you might find you see a lot of them here, as well as the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Be sure to take a peek around and leave some love in the comments!
